The Power of Writing builds on the successful Power of Reading project which provides motivating and meaningful contexts for young writers.
This successful project is aimed at schools that have participated in the Power of Reading and focuses on ways of further developing children’s enthusiasm, experience and skills as writers.
Using children’s literature as an inspiration for writing, The Power of Writing project will enable teachers to develop their pedagogy and confidence to support children’s development as writers and narrow the gap in achievement between reading and writing.
The project will enable teachers to:
• create a supportive environment for writing in their classrooms
• deepen understanding of the role literature can play in writing development across a range of genres
• support children at all stages in the writing process
• develop a stronger understanding of effective ways to support children’s spelling development
• reflect on and develop their practice in teaching writing.
